DARE UK Lunchtime Public Webinar, Tuesday 7 December 2021

On 7 December 2021, we held a webinar for members of the public to find out more about the DARE UK programme and what it aims to achieve.

The DARE UK (Data and Analytics Research Environments UK) programme is publicly funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) with the aim of designing and delivering an innovative national data research infrastructure that is joined-up, demonstrates trustworthiness and supports research at scale for public good. Phase 1 of the programme – ‘Design and Dialogue’ – is an extensive listening exercise led by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) and Administrative Data Research UK (ADR UK) from July 2021 to August 2022 to find out how researchers, technologists and the public think the infrastructure should work.

This lunchtime webinar was a free online event open to all members of the public. Attendees had the opportunity to meet the DARE UK team, learn more about the programme and ask any questions they had.

They found out about:

  • Why data research is so important and how it impacts lives, from health and education to work and the environment
  • How sensitive data is currently made available for research, and the security and governance processes in place
  • A case study showcasing the power of linked data for better understanding outcomes for looked after children in Northern Ireland
  • How DARE UK is working to improve the current system by enabling fast, efficient, ethical and secure access to data, to maximise the public benefit of data research for all
