WHAT IS DARE UK?
DARE UK (Data and Analytics Research Environments UK) is a programme that aims to establish a safe and collaborative network of Trusted Research Environments (TREs) where approved researchers can efficiently access and analyse sensitive data to advance research for public benefit. By co-creating this network with relevant communities and the public, we aim to enhance research while maintaining the security and confidentiality of sensitive data.
WHY WAS DARE UK ESTABLISHED?
DARE UK was established with the vision for all research and innovation to benefit from seamless, secure use of diverse sensitive data at a pace, efficiency and scale that revolutionises research productivity and accelerates research to deliver public good. DARE UK’s mission is to put the UK at the forefront of sensitive data research and innovation by assembling the tools, technologies and standards needed to streamline secure data linkage and use.
HOW WE'RE FACILITATING BETTER RESEARCH
HOW WE WORK
DARE UK is funded by UK Research and Innovation, with oversight from Health Data Research UK and Administrative Data Research UK. We work with key experts in the data research community through various exploratory projects and community-driven efforts, with public involvement at the heart.
WHAT IS DATA RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE?
Data research infrastructure refers to the systems and processes that support research and analysis using sensitive data. It includes physical systems, such as the data centres where the data itself is held; computer software that researchers use to analyse data; governance processes, such as those guiding who is able to access what data and for what purposes; and the people who run the systems and do the research. It is everything that makes data research happen.
HOW WE'RE GOVERNED
DARE UK is governed by a Programme Board, which meet regularly to deliberate on key programme developments and decisions. The programme board includes public representatives and is independently advised by a Scientific and Technical Advisory Group.

PUBLIC TRUST AT THE HEART
Public involvement and engagement is central to our work. We strive to build trust by including the public in all aspects of programme delivery and decision-making. To this end, we have given permanent seats to members of the public on our Programme Board and Scientific and Technical Advisory Group and benefit from ongoing support from a Delivery Team Public Advisor.
