The Information Governance Interest Group (IGIG) is hosting a virtual event to explore how we can generate broad principles for access and how to develop principles for research data governance and the associated operating rules.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ (ABS) has been experimenting with the provision of international access to its Trusted Research Environment (TRE) and has recently expanded it’s service offering formally. The definition of ‘overseas access’ is a wide one, encompassing Australia-based researchers temporarily working abroad, Australian-funded projects where one or more partners is abroad, and ‘pure’ overseas or international requests for access to ABS integrated and detailed microdata.
In this event, we will use the ABS’ experience of overseas access as a jumping off point to understand some of the factors that make the development of principles both important and difficult.
