DARE UK Early Adopters

Projects supporting the testing and integration of new capabilities in UK Trusted Research Environments (TREs) under the DARE UK Transformational Programme.

DARE UK Early Adopters are pioneering projects integrating, testing and refining key technical products designed to enhance TRE research capabilities for public benefit.

Through £1.86 million in funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), DARE UK launched six new projects, enabling over 10 Trusted Research Environments (TREs) to become early testers and adopters of new capabilities developed under the DARE UK Transformational Programme.

The projects are working alongside TREvolution, a project transitioning initial versions of new TRE standards and capabilities developed as part of the DARE UK Phase 1 Driver Projects. By piloting and assessing TREvolution’s outputs in real-world settings, the early adopter projects will help improve national data infrastructure standards and capabilities for research across the UK.

The projects aim to speed up the adoption of enhanced TRE capabilities in the UK, making TREs more scalable, efficient, and interoperable. This will make it possible for approved researchers to securely access and analyse data across different research fields and sectors held in different locations across the UK to help tackle scientific and societal challenges.

Each early adopter project focuses on specific areas of TRE enhancement, including the SATRE reference architecture, federated analysis, semi-automated output checking and disclosure control, and AI-readiness, ensuring that the TREvolution products are secure, practical, scalable, and ready for broader adoption by data research infrastructures and services in the UK.
