DARE UK has launched a new funding opportunity to support new and existing community interest and working groups, following a successful pilot funding round between November 2023 and March 2024.
DARE UK has opened a new round of funding to support the management of new and existing DARE UK community interest groups and working groups. This opportunity aims to continue to build on the progress made during the pilot funding round between November 2023 and March 2024, where four funded community groups (three interest groups and one working group) successfully delivered outputs aligned with the DARE UK vision.
Available funding
DARE UK is offering two separate funding opportunities:
- DARE UK community interest groups
Interest groups can apply for up to £60,000 in funding to support community engagement, management, and networking activities for a 14-month period from February 2025 to the end of March 2026. - DARE UK community working groups
Working groups can apply for up to £75,000 in funding to produce specific, community-defined outputs within a 12-month period from February 2025 to the end of January 2026.
Eligibility
Funding is available at 80% full Economic Cost (fEC) for all eligible organisations (e.g., higher education providers, research institutes, NHS bodies, public sector research establishments, independent research and technology organisations, etc.) More information about eligible organisations here is available on the UKRI website.
Public involvement and engagement
In line with DARE UK’s commitment to meaningful public involvement and engagement (PIE), all applicants must include a plan for public participation in their group governance structure and activities, with at least one member of the public (or public contributor) serving as a co-chair. Additionally, working group applications must outline plans for PIE activities, such as workshops and focus groups, to gather public input into their outputs.
How to apply
Existing groups should complete an interest groups funding application form or working groups funding application form, while new groups must complete an interest group charter or working group charter alongside the relevant application form.
For more information about eligibility and the funding application process, please download the interest group call specification document or the working group call specification document.
Timelines
Both funding calls will open on 2 October 2024 , run concurrently, and close on 19 November 2024. An applicant webinar was held on 15 October 2024, offering interested applicants the chance to learn more about the funding opportunities and ask any questions they may have. Watch the recording and download the slides here.
DARE UK will continue to offer further funding opportunities for community groups throughout Phase 2 of the programme. We encourage all interested applicants to take advantage of this opportunity and contribute to the ongoing development of a vibrant UK data research community.

We look forward to your application!
